The San Antonio Express-News named Abe Morell’s Universe Next Door exhibition as one of 2009′s best in visual arts.  The article cites Abe Morell’s camera obscura images as “brain- and eye-tweaking works [that made] for a magical show.”

Fellow honorees also included San Antonio native Vincent Valdez, whose new works will be featured in an exhibition at the Southwest School of Art & Craft beginning February 11.

Abelardo Morell’s bio-pic, Shadow of the House, has been screened to full houses for the last few weeks.

The final look into the life of one of America’s best-known respected phogotraphers (filmed over a 7-year period by Allie Humenuk) will be on Saturday, Nov 7 at 2PM in our Ellison lecture hall. Admission is free, and the public is welcome.

Photo Department Chair Victor Pagona reports that Brian Kelly, a scholarship student, took first place in the B&W Photography category of the VA (Veterans’ Administration) Creative Arts National Festival (Victor says, "this is a huge event, thousands of entries"). 

And earlier in the week, Felicia Michaels lectured at one of our photo classes – she’s a well-known comedian, performing  at the River City Comedy Club and also (Victor’s words again)  "a  fine photographer whose work can be found online."
