Conceived by Patricia Autenrieth, The Hive Project is a collaboration of twelve artists. The Hive Project expands the artistic range of the quilt as art form, and alludes to the history of cooperative quilting bees. Each artist made 64 12-inch squares to be hung in a grouping that allows its outer columns to intermix with those of other groupings. Says Jeanne Benson, "This piece is a dialogue about a geometric shape that moves effortlessly between the art of nature and American quilt." |
