We are grateful to the many individuals, families, foundations and businesses who, each year, help sustain the non-profit Southwest School of Art & Craft’s educational programs and preservation projects. If you are already a member or sponsor, thank you!

By becoming an annual member of the Southwest School of Art & Craft, you will receive:

10% discount on regular classes for one year

Priority class registration status

Invitations to exhibitions, lectures, workshops and special events

10% discount in the Gallery Shop
A one-time 20% discount in the Gallery Shop during the holiday season

An Individual Supporter membership is $45/year.

A Senior Supporter membership, for those 65 years and older, is $35/year.

A Family membership, which extends the class discount benefit to all individuals in the same household, is $75/year.

A Patron membership, which has the privileges of the Family-level membership and receives two distinctive Fiesta Arts Fair medals, is $150/year.

While members use and enjoy these benefits, their reasons for becoming a member are more deeply significant. For without membership and sponsorship support, the school would not be the center of creative expression that it is. Membership support enables us to:

  • Keep studio classes affordable for many students, of all ages and backgrounds. Typically, tuition does not cover the full cost of classes.
  • Preserve one of our region’s most important historic sites. Without individual support, the historic site would have been demolished and lost years ago; maintaining it today still requires commitment.
  • Provide studio art experiences for children and teenagers throughout the community. The school’s youth programs have been considered national models for more than three decades.
  • Present exhibitions of work by outstanding artists from around the region and country. Exhibitions do not generate revenues, they generate knowledge, new thinking, creativity.
  • Add to the cultural vitality – and economic attractiveness – of our region. The school’s programming respects and preserves traditional arts, but also encourages creative and innovative new approaches.

For those Angels who choose to help sustain and grow the school’s educational and preservation projects, there are additional levels to contribute.

By combining a history of place and space, a contemporary focus on traditional art forms and a commitment to community involve-ment, the school is, in many ways, a model for cultural institutions of the 21st century.

Andres Andujar, quoted in the San Antonio Express-News

Thirty-five years in the making, the Southwest School of Art & Craft has become a nationally recognized art school that meets the needs of hobbyists, beginning ingénues, and accomplished artists equally. The faculty and the fees remain accessible - many of the former are well-known artists in the community - making SSAC a shoe-in for both the Critics and Readers picks for Best of 2004. The campus, which has carefully remodeled and maintained the grounds of historic downtown Ursuline Academy, features traveling art shows throughout the year, along with exhibits of local practicing artists such as the Ken Little retrospective last fall. The annual student show, held each spring, offers recurring evidence that whether you're studying printmaking, photography, or good old fashion painting, SSAC is the best investment in town. EW
