Catharine Ellis, Circle Twills, detail
CATHARINE ELLIS | Waynesville, NC
CATHARINE ELLIS, who will teach a workshop on dyes and mordant printing here Feb 18 and 19, divides her time between studio work, research, and specialized teaching. Her love of woven cloth and dye application led her to develop woven shibori — a true combination of weaving and dyeing. In recent years her work has focused on natural dyes for cotton. She is the author of Woven Shibori and her work has been featured in Fiberarts Magazine and Surface Design Journal.

He is a studio artist and part-time metal arts instructor in Long Beach, CA; the industrial environment of this major port city influences the imagery, materials, and aesthetics of his work.
