While our printmaking studio is exceptionally well-equipped to produce traditional art prints, it is also nationally known for innovations in non-toxic printmaking.  We also incorporate innovative mixed-media techniques into many classes.

 6093 | Beyond the Basics: Advanced Encaustic Paint

This three-day, advanced encaustic workshop is designed for the experienced student who would like to refine their work, explore new directions, or expand their skills in encaustic painting. Individual direction and development of a personal vision will be the goal of this class. Through guided exercises, informal group discussion, and individual support, students will be challenged to push the boundaries of their work by developing material that is layered in content and concept. A review of safe studio practices and refresher demonstrations in encaustic techniques will be available as needed. Co-sponsored by R&F Paint, students will receive sample materials. Intermediate-level students will have the opportunity to explore more advanced projects in etching, relief, lithography, and collagraph. A materials list will be provided at the first class. NOTE: Section A is for experienced printmakers; Section B is open to all levels; and Section C is geared toward beginning printmakers. No class Nov 22.

 6117 | Watercolor Monoprint with Drypoint and Coll

Print with watercolor using this simplified printmaking process to producte one-of-a-kind prints. Students will drypoint-scratch, gouge, scrape, or abrade-a texture or image into a plastic, matte finished lexan-plate. They will then use acrylic medium, stickers, and tape to add other textures for special effects. The next step is applying color to the plate with watercolor paints and/or watercolor crayons to reveal the texture or image which is then transferred to paper using the press. The plate can be reused, re-colored, and over-printed for different variations. Includes most materials; see SSA website for a materials list. Please bring a bag lunch. No previous printmaking experience necessary.

 6147 | Cyanotype Prints with Monotype and Mixed Me

This workshop will introduce participants to the beautiful and easy cyanotype (blueprint) process, using stencils plus monotype and mixed media techniques to make layered and bold images on paper. Review examples of cyanotypes with mixed media additions with the instructor; then learn to coat paper with cyanotype solution (or try commercial pre-coated paper) before exposing and developing prints. After the cyanotypes are dry, enhance with monotype, collage, and drawing techniques. Bring your curiosity and creativity. Includes most materials; see SSA website for a materials list.
