While our printmaking studio is exceptionally well-equipped to produce traditional art prints, it is also nationally known for innovations in non-toxic printmaking.  We also incorporate innovative mixed-media techniques into many classes.

Get the most out of your art materials and learn to add mixed media to your work, regardless of your discipline-whether traditional or nontraditional. Learn about substrates, including canvas, wood, MDF, and paper, and the best ways to build a painting surface. Find out about "mock" lacquer, sanded paint, crackle effects, spray-paint, stencils, special effects, medium combinations, paint-skins, collage, photo transfer, epoxy, and other interesting materials and effects. Materials included and available for experimentation; however, please see SSA website for a list of supplies. No previous painting experience required, but some art experience expected.

Let this three-day workshop begin an independent exploration of the fascinating medium of encaustic. Students will receive a thorough grounding in the basics through demonstrations, hands-on materials, and extensive handouts. We will address safe studio practices, tools and equipment, and basic approaches to wax painting. Students will explore a variety of techniques for adding mark-making to their work. Students can expect to take home several small, completed paintings. Co-sponsored by R&F Paint, student will receive almost $100 in medium, paint, and pigment sticks.

Screen printing, also called silkscreen and serigraphy, is a versatile way to create images using a variety of stencils attached to a fine mesh screen. Stencils can be made from cut materials, fluid materials painted directly onto the screen, or produced photographically on the screen with a light sensitive emulsion. This class will include introductory instruction as well as some advanced techniques focusing on the breadth of methods and techniques used to generate printed images. Materials will be discussed the first class; see SSA website for a listing. No previous printmaking experience required, but some art and drawing experience helpful.

In this class, students will explore printmaking methods and focus on areas of greatest individual interest. Beginning level students will try various types of printmaking-relief, monotype, collagraph, and etching. Class instruction will include producing the plate or matrix, printing, and editioning. Intermediate-level students will have the opportunity to explore more advanced projects in etching, relief, lithography, and collagraph. A materials list will be provided at the first class.

This weekend workshop will combine basic silkscreen techniques with traditional etching to create an experimental form of photo etching. The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to exposing a half-toned image to a silkscreen and then transferring it onto a copper plate for etching. During the second half of the workshop, students will develop layers by using various intaglio techniques. Throughout the weekend course, students will be shown demonstrations that will further their knowledge of the intaglio process. Students should bring inspiring imagery or resource material to work from; includes all other materials. Previous printmaking experience helpful.

Click the Department Class Type (ex. Ceramics)

 Step 3

Click the “Register Now” button. Note: Each area of concentration will have separate registration forms.

 Step 4

Choose your class by clicking the box to the left of the class name. Scroll to the bottom of the page to click Continue and complete the student information form. Once this form is submitted, you will receive a final e-mail with confirmation of your registration.
