Get the most out of your art materials-whether traditional or nontraditional. This is a good class for those working in other disciplines who want to add mixed media to their work. Learn about substrates, including canvas, wood, MDF, and paper. Learn the best ways to build a painting surface. Find out about "mock" lacquer, sanded paint, crackle effects, spray-paint, stencils, special effects, medium combinations, paint-skins, collage, photo transfer, epoxy, and other interesting materials and effects. Materials included and available for experimentation; however, you should bring painting supplies and brushes you may already have. No previous painting experience required, but some art experience expected.

6094 | Layers: Encaustic Mixed Media Methods & Materials

Level: New | Intermediate/Advanced | Instructor: Michelle Belto
Dates: Fri - Sun, 3/27/2020 to 3/29/2020 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Studio: Droste Design Studio | Building: Santikos Building
Tuition: $330.00 | Friends/Seniors (65+): $315.00

The versatility of encaustic invites the use of mixed media materials and methods, while the natural luminosity and transparency of the paint allows for complex multi-layered work that speaks of time and memory. Going beyond simple collage in wax, this workshop is designed to assist you in creating intricate and personally significant paintings, where mixed media choices as material and application become intuitive. This workshop explores the myriad methods that can be used to create complexity, add interest and texture, and design with mystery and drama. Correct use and mixing of media with wax, along with tips and suggestions for display and shipping, will be discussed. The workshop is co-sponsored by R&F Paints. Students should have a good grasp of encaustic techniques and materials in order to take this class.
