Learn the tools and processes for working with flat glass to create a stained-glass panel. Cutting glass, soldering, and fabrication using the copper foil technique will be covered. All tools including grinders, cutters, and soldering irons, and some foil, solder, and glass will be provided for small projects. You may provide colored glass of your choice; additional supplies available for purchase from the instructor during class. Please bring a bag lunch.

Explore the ancient art form of glass beadmaking utilizing open flamework techniques. Students will work with a "hot head" torch and soft glass as they learn the process of forming various types of beads, including donut beads, cylinder beads, textured beads, round beads, and half and half beads. Decorative additions such as dots, stringers, and colored frits will also be covered, as well as safety procedures and studio set-up. Includes materials; please bring a bag lunch. This introductory class is perfect for anyone interested in learning open flamework technique but not interested in beadmaking. Students will learn all safety procedures for using dual fuel torches. Several different types and sizes of marbles including latticino marbles, inclusion marbles, and end of the day marbles will be covered. Includes materials; please bring a bag lunch. NOTE: Marbles made in class will need time to anneal and will need to be picked up from the instructor the next day. Prerequisite: Must be 18 years or older.

This class is for individuals who have previous experience welding but want time to hone skills, explore processes, and work on individual projects. Through practice, students will learn optimal welding settings required based on the materials being welded, to acquire an adequate welding bond. Students will also work on advanced projects from hinges, levelers, modular methods, and bending with stock materials. The class will also dig into calculating steel strength. Includes some tools and supplies; please see SSA website for a materials list.

Interested in learning the finer points of woodworking or have a plane that you need to learn to tune? Learn the common uses of various hand planes-bench, block, rabbet, router, and moulding planes-as the instructor demonstrates each type of plane aligning proper tool for a given task. You will have the opportunity to practice using planes in class as you dimension and edge a small (8 x 12") laminated hardwood cutting board all with hand woodworking tools. Time permitting, students will sharpen and tune one of their own personal planes with the instructor's guidance. Wood will be supplied; please see SSA website for a list of suggested tools. How to Register

 Step 1

If registering during Member's Priority registration, login to the website with your username and password (open registration does not require you to be logged in). To find classes, visit the Adult Class pages to read class descriptions.

 Step 2

Click the Department Class Type (ex. Ceramics)

 Step 3

Click the “Register Now” button. Note: Each area of concentration will have separate registration forms.

 Step 4

Choose your class by clicking the box to the left of the class name. Scroll to the bottom of the page to click Continue and complete the student information form. Once this form is submitted, you will receive a final e-mail with confirmation of your registration.
