The transition to college life can be a stressful time for many students. A licensed counselor is available on an appointment and walk-in basis to assist students who feel the need for professional assistance in making the transition. Students may also meet privately and confidentially with the Student Services Director for any reason.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, SSA offers educational services that provide equal opportunity for people with disabilities, or who might learn differently. The student should provide documentation of their disability or other health impairments, along with recommendations from a certified educational specialist or physician, as to appropriate accommodations.
SSA has partnered with The Winston School San Antonio which has a long history of serving students with learning differences. The Winston School San Antonio can provide confidential college counseling services, testing, and suggested accommodations for prospective, accepted, or current SSA students. For more information on accessing the services of The Winston School San Antonio, please contact the Student Services Director.
SSA has adopted the ADA definition of disability: “Disability defined is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual” (ADA, 1990). All reasonable accommodations are determined for students on an individual basis. Students with a disability or other impairment must make an appointment with the Director of Student Affairs at the beginning of each school year to discuss appropriate accommodations. These meetings are confidential, and any accommodations made may be amended at any point. To make an appointment, contact the Student Services Director.
