Find out about "mock" lacquer, sanded paint, epoxy, crackle effects, spray-paint, stencils, special effects, medium combinations, paint-skins, collage, photo transfer, epoxy, and other interesting materials and effects. Materials included and available for experimentation, however students should bring painting supplies and brushes they may already have. 6092 | Encaustic & Paper: Complementary Processes (Full)
In this class, students will learn to create the ideal canvas for working with encaustic painting using handmade paper and foam-based structures. The first part of the class will be spent in the paper studio discovering a variety of ways to create custom paper using inclusions, adding rust, collage, and texture. Wet paper is wrapped around forms and when dry, these forms become the perfect surface for wax and oil based materials. During the second half of the workshop, students explore a variety of mixed media applications on the wax surface including transfer, collage, intarsia, inlay, glazing, dry brush accretion, and layering. Throughout the workshop, students will see demonstrations in both paper and encaustic technique and have ample time for guided exploration and completion of several works. This workshop is co-sponsored by R&F Paint. No experience in either papermaking or encaustic painting is required although the experienced papermaker or encaustic artist will find something new and challenging in experimenting with this dual media.
