The Southwest School of Art’s Summer Art Studios offers 1 - 2 week long classes in a positive, nurturing, and fun environment for students ages 5 - 18. There are over 100 diverse classes available for students to attend and each week brings a new selection. Each class is taught by a professional artist and artist educators who help develop students' individual expression.

Both morning (9:00am - 12:00pm) and afternoon (1:00pm - 4:00pm) classes are available for students 7 and up. Classes for ages 5 - 6 are only offered in the morning.

Registration is ongoing throughout the summer. 


To register your student online be sure to follow ALL of the steps below.

Step 1
Review all of the Summer Art Studios policies and guidelines, which can be found HERE. By continuing to Step 2, you acknowledge you have read and understand the polices and guidelines outlined in Step 1.

Step 2
Purchase the classes that you would like your student(s) to attend. To find classes, click on the link of your chosen week(s) to the left. Note: Classes will not be listed online until mid-March 2017.

Step 3
Complete your student information form. Once this form is submitted, you will receive a final e-mail with confirmation of your registration. 


Step 1
Review all of the Summer Art Studios policies and guidelines which can be found HERE. By continuing to Step 2, you acknowledge you have read and understand the polices and guidelines outlined in Step 1.

Release Form

The Southwest School of Art requires every student who registers for the 2017 Summer Art Studios to have completed their release forms. Without these forms, students will not be able to attend classes. If you register on-line the last step in your registration process is completing the form. You can also find the forms HERE. 


Classes for ages 5-18 are designed to fill the skill set for a specific age range. Class age ranges are based on this, and not on a child’s artistic ability. No exceptions are made.

Because we are committed to a high-quality educational experience, 5 and 6 year olds may enroll for half-day only. Teen classes are for ages 14-18 only. 

Special Needs

For children or teens with limited abilities or special medical needs, parents must contact the Young Artist Programs Director at 210.200.8213 prior to registering your child to arrange accommodations. 


The basic tuition for a half-day class is $150 per week (SSA members $135). Note: Special tuition rates apply for for 2-week classes, and classes that include special material fees. Tuition for each of these classses is listed separately, as part of the class description. 

Extended CARE

Extended Care is required of all full-day students (students enrolled in both morning and afternoon classes during the same week). Extended Care begins at 8:30am and ends promptly at 5:30pm. Staff will not be available to supervise any student before 8:30 am. Extended Care includes a supervised early arrival, a supervised lunch hour and a supervised after class with structured activities. Extended Care is $30 per week ($65 if you are purchasing lunch) and the member discount does not apply.


A supervised lunch hour from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. is included in Extended Care. Students can either bring a bag lunch from home or purchase a weeks’ worth of meals for $35.00. If you would like to purchase an entire week of lunches, you can do so online when signing up for Extended Care or HERE. If your student has food allergies, please let us know at the time of purchase so that the Copper Kitchen Café can prepare a special meal in advance.  


Interested in your own Summer Art Studios t-shirt? A limited supply will be available for purchase at check-in or with any of our SAS Counselors.   


Classes, unless otherwise noted, are held on our historic park-like grounds located at the intersection of Augusta and Navarro (across from the Central Public Library). 


All SSA faculty and staff will be parking off site in order to maximize space for you and our other patrons. We encourage you to arrive early to find a parking space prior to checking your student(s) in or out. Friday will be particularly hectic mid-day because of Friday Finale, and we strongly suggest that you arrive early and/or find off-site parking. If the Ursuline parking lot is full, you may also park at the Navarro Campus, the Central Public Library Parking Garage or in one of the paid parking lots along our perimeter. Unless you are a member, please refrain from parking in the lot belonging to Club Giraud.


Parents, relatives, and friends are invited to join us each Friday from 12:00-1:00pm for Friday Finale! While there, you can have lunch with your children, view the artwork on display and meet your children’s new friends, teachers, and counselors. 


If you are interested in volunteering for Summer Art Studios, please fill out this online application. Volunteers are required to be 14 years of age by June 1, 2017 in order to volunteer. You will receive information about orientation and scheduling after your application has been reviewed.
